Health promotion offers solutions to the health problems our society is facing today. This double degree develops expertise in the areas of nutrition and health promotion through the development of knowledge and skills in nutrition and the principles of health promotion planning.You will learn to implement and evaluate public health nutrition, and health and nutrition promotion programs, and explore principles related to:primary health service, strategies and methods for promotion and evaluation.You will also explore health issues such as alcohol and other drugs, injury control, cancer, physical activity and mental health. In this double degree, the combined component of health promotion and nutrition will develop your knowledge and skills in the processes of planning, evaluating health promotion programs and in core studies in:human biology,behavioural sciences, research methods, epidemiology.In your third and fourth year, you study the planning, implementation and evaluation of health promotion programs. From your first year you will participate in interprofessional education opportunities and integrated learning designed to enhance your employability.The nutrition element complements health promotion well, with the focus on nutrition for health within a range of groups in the population, and on nutrition and science. There is an emphasis on the practical training necessary to work as a public health nutritionist.There are fieldwork and professional practice units in both disciplines. In your second year, you undertake a range of fieldwork opportunities in schools. In your third year you plan, implement, evaluate and manage an on-campus health promotion campaign. In the fourth year you undertake a 100-hour placement at a health promoting government or non-government organisation to plan, implement and evaluate programs in urban, rural or international locations.

The eligibility criteria to study a bachelor degree at Curtin, you normally need to have graduated from high school with the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE), or an equivalent qualification, and gained an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) that satisfies Curtin's entry requirements. Your year 12 exam result remains valid indefinitely. Scores dating back to 1992 (including the TEA out of 400 and the TES out of 510) can be converted to the current ranking, the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), with the Tertiary Institutions Service Centre ATAR calculator.The other eligibilty criteria includes:- 1) Successful completion of the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT). 2)  Successful completion of the Alternative Test for Adult Admission (prior to STAT). 3)  Successful completion of the Mature age Tertiary Entrance Examination (TEE). 4)   General Certification of Education (advanced levels). 5)  TAFE or Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualifications. 6) Current Division 1 General or Mental Health Nursing Registration with a State Nursing Board in Australia. 7) Successful completion of the first year of a bachelor degree course at another Australian university. 8) Successful completion of two Curtin full degree level units via extension study and English competence. 9) Successful completion of two degree level units via Open Universities Australia (OUA) and English competence. 10)Successful completion of two degree level units at an Australian university and English competence.
