This course has been designed to facilitate entry by international students who wish to embark on a career in the international shipping industry. Graduates will become a Navigating (Deck) Officer, Master on commercial vessels. The course provides students with the knowledge and skills required to safely operate commercial vessels. Course content includes navigation, seamanship, cargo and passenger transport, marine legislation and shipboard safety and management. This course is fully compliant with the training and educational requirements of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (1978 as amended), which does not include qualifying sea service.
General knowledge about Nautical Science.
Major studies include combination of all units up to the shipmasters level into an integrated training program that incorporates the minimum sea service necessary for eligibility for the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) oral examination for the issue of the Certificate of Competency as Deck Watch keeper.
Australian Year 12 (or equivalent) with a pass in Mathematics Applied (or equivalent) and Physics, Chemistry or a Physical Science subject.Australian Year 10 pass in English (or equivalent).Those who do not possess the prerequisites can undertake relevant foundation units free of charge through the University to meet the required standard.Minimum ATAR level is required,students who have English as a second language require IELTS score.
This course is accredited by the Institute of Engineers Australia (IEAust).
A graduate can pursue a career as a Deck Officer on any type of commercial vessel of unlimited tonnage.
