With a hands on approach, a degree in Marine Environment uses a translational science approach integrating the natural sciences with management, policy and law. Students can chose a specialization across three major areas such as Marine Conservation,Fisheries Management,Aquaculture. The eight core units provide a strong foundation in understanding the natural science of the marine environment together with the opportunities for workplace learning or research in the third year.
General knowledge about marine environment .
Development of natural and biological sciences, economics, management, social science, policy and law. This applied science degree leads to a variety of career pathways specific to marine-related research, sustainable resource use and environmental management. Students gain hands-on experience in field research techniques and laboratory methods, together with opportunities to undertake work placement in industry, government and non-government organizations relevant to their chosen major.
Satisfactory completion of Year 12 (TCE, VCE, HSC or equivalent), including English, Mathematics and a Science subject. An ATAR score of 60 or above is required for entry. Mature-age applicants with relevant experience may be given special consideration.
The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) will accreditate this degree as meeting the academic base requirement, in full, for registration as a Registered Marine Scientist and as meeting the academic base requirement, in part for registration as a Chartered Scientist and Chartered Marine Scientist.
This degree will prepare graduates for exciting careers in marine conservation and environmental management, fisheries and aquaculture, the tourism industry, shipping, the off-shore industries, non-governmental organizations and all levels of government, from local to global.
