This is good news for mineral science graduates facing abundant career opportunities in the years to come in roles such as plant and project metallurgists, mill superintendents, operations managers, or consultants and researchers in commercial laboratories, research institutions or universities. In this practically-based course student will develop knowledge about the nature and extraction and use of minerals and metals including gold, silver, diamond, platinum, copper, nickel, iron, steel, silicon and aluminum.Student will also get opportunity to discover how other extracted materials have become integral to our everyday existence, particularly for power generation, transportation, building and construction and technology. This course includes practical training areas including extractive metallurgy, process control, and instrumentation and operational management using own equipment in teaching labs and pilot plant.Students will also visit mine-sites and metallurgical plants, and be given access to opportunities for interstate or overseas vacation employment and university-industry scholarships.

As per normal undergraduate admission requirements.It is recommended that students entering this major to have completed WACE Chemistry 3A/3B, Physics 3A/3B and Mathematics: Specialist 3C/3D.Applicants having other backgrounds will be considered for admission, but may need make-up units in first year, and therefore may need more than one year to complete Part I.For more details contact Study Excel.
On completing graduation from Murdoch university, Students will become eligible for professional membership of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and be able to progress to engineering and higher level research degrees such as MPhil and PhD.
Mineral Science graduates can pursue employment in mineral processing and metal extraction plants throughout Australia and overseas. The skills and knowledge you gain will also open doors to a multitude of opportunities in the mining industry and allied industries including oil and gas, mineral processing and consulting.
