Sociology degree will give students the tools to help transform economic, political and social systems for the better. Sociology looks at some of the most important issues of our time including globalization, conflict, socio-economic inequality, religion, ethics, social inclusion, the law, health and education. By engaging with social research methods, social policy and sociological theory you will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and respond to these social issues and more. Our highly active and well published academic staff will provide with insights into their specialist areas of expertise, ranging from public sector ethics to the history of social thought, from the sociology of race and ethnicity to the sociology of community development to name just a few. Sociological skills are increasingly important in a wide range of professions, occupations and organisations. Some of these include: working in local, state or federal public service , working for welfare, community, industrial or commercial organisations , undertaking social research such as social impact assessments (private contract researcher), developing social policy at local or national government.
Basic general knowledge.
In this course major studies include detailed study of human behavior, crime , punishment, the formation and dissolution of families, bureaucracy in organizations, conflicts between classes, and global inequalities, generation, occupation, gender, religion, sexual orientation, family, health, nation, race and ethnicity among many others.
This course is recognized by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and Bar Council for the purpose of providing some exemptions from the PG professional stage of legal studies.
Career opportunities exist in community-based agencies, regeneration partnerships, voluntary-sector organizations, housing and social care. Government social policies and community-based initiatives are creating new forms of action and service provision, and require more people with knowledge of organizing at community level and in partnership projects. There are also opportunities within small businesses and self-employment.
