The Co-operative engineering education is a structured method of combining an academic education with periods of practical work experience which provides academic credit for structured job experience. These periods of job experience will be with engineering employers where the students should work under the supervision of professional engineers. The program provides students with the opportunity to better evaluate their career choices.Students will also have the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of sectors of the industry and types of engineering work as well as to evaluate specific companies.
Basic principles of engineering .
Applications will be considered on an individual basis. Students will normally need obtain a Credit Average through the BE degree course to be able to continue in the Co-operative Degree programme.Students may apply to revert from the Co-operative Degree programme to the regular BE programme at any time.
Articulation from and to other courses (including the BE programmes which have a common first year) remains the same as the current AMC Bachelor of Engineering programmes which is noted in the BE Course Rules 2010:The due Recognition of Prior Learning is given to the students on an individual basis. The students are required to provide sufficient evidence (i.e. syllabi for units successfully completed) with consultation of the Course Co-ordinator with the relevant unit lecturer to evaluate each application for advanced standing, which is compared to corresponding AMC BE syllabi, with exemptions granted form Co-ordinator who is satisfied that the content is to an equivalent scope and level. This process enables students (who have completed or part-completed equivalent post-secondary courses) to be granted appropriate credit transfer. The maximum credit awarded will not exceed two years.Students with substantial experience in the relevant engineering disciplines may also be granted exemptions from appropriate units through the RPL process(sufficient evidence for completion of units in syllabi is required). Students granted credit transfer are encouraged to attend a free two week refresher course in mathematics and mechanics conducted by NCMEH staff prior to the commencement of each semester.
The Co-operative program will allow graduates to a head on start for better evaluating their career choices for opportunities to gain experience in a variety of sectors of the industry and types of engineering work as well as to evaluate specific companies. They will have completed part of their engineering-in-training on their way to registration as a professional engineer (Member of IEAust). It is expected that graduates will have an accelerated process of advancement into more senior leadership positions within the industry.
5 years (4 years of study + 1 year of work placements) - part time study is not available
