This program helps to develop knowledge and expertise in the field of plant biosecurity through 12-month graduate diploma program. As a biosecurity specialist students will be working within a rapidly growing field of science, affecting industries such as agriculture, environmental science, sustainability, and international and domestic trade.
Good knowledge of biology and botany.
Major studies includes recognizing of regulated Pests and associating them with likely import pathways and hosts and development and implementation of plant biosecurity procedures are involved as major concept of study.
A Bachelor's degree or higher, or significant professional experience in plant biosecurity or a related discipline (for example entomology, plant pathology, quarantine).
After completing this course, Students can then apply to join the Graduate Diploma in Plant Biosecurity.Students will also become eligible for membership to the Australian Entomological Society, the Australian Plant Pathology Society, the Australia Ecological Society, the Australian Institute of Agricultural Science, the Australian Society of Horticultural Sciences and the Australian Society for Risk Analysis.
Graduates will be able to pursue careers in biosecurity, quarantine and pest management, acting in technical, research and administrative roles, with organizations such as the State Departments of Agriculture, State Biosecurity Agencies, Biosecurity Services, Plant Health Australia and private industry, or their international counterparts.
