The Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Economics, offers students a broad foundation in a range of humanities and social sciences, and creative arts areas of study that is combined with another area of specialization in economics. Arts areas of study includes Aboriginal Studies, Ancient Civilizations, Ancient Greek, Art Theory, Asian Religions and Comparative Philosophy, Asian Studies, Behavioural Studies, Chinese, Criminology, English, European Studies, French, Gender Studies, Geography and Environmental Studies, German, History, Indonesian, International Relations, Japanese, Journalism Media and Communications, Latin, Music History, Music Skills, Music Technology, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Public Policy and Sociology. The Economics areas of study also includes Economic Analysis and Economic Foundations.
General knowledge of Arts and Economics.
The major studies include development of basic knowledge related to banking, which includes Economic Analysis and Economic Foundations and the studies included in the Arts faculty are designed to offer the students a broad foundation in a range of humanities and social sciences.
For Arts: Applicants are expected to meet the normal requirements set by the University for entry to degree courses. There are also several categories of special admission. No specific course or subject prerequisites apply.For Economics:In addition to meeting the University's basic admission requirements, applicants must have passed TCE MAP5C Mathematics Applied, or an equivalent unit, or, a higher level Mathematics subject as accepted by the School of Economics and Finance and/or by the Faculty of Business.Students returning to study either after a long absence and/or new students, who have the mathematics prerequisite (lack confidence in their quantitative skills) should enrol in one of the following units KMA003 Mathematics Foundation Unit, UPP090 Bridging Maths or BEA109 Introduction Quantitative Methods, prior enrolling in BEA140 Quantitative Methods, for International students(same criteria) bridging programme may only take BEA109.Applicants without the mathematics prerequisite but who wish to enrol for a Bachelor of Economics should consult the Faculty Office.The credit mat be given to students who have diploma/advanced diploma in Business related discipline from TAFE, upon admission.Faculty also offers direct credit for its awards(tertiary institution or overseas) subject to consultation Admission Guide, on determination of application.International students must provide an IELTS score or a TOEFL score with a Test of Written English score.The test must not be more than 24 months old.
There are no professional bodies in the economics discipline, however, while undertaking the Bachelor of Economics degree or a combined economics degree, students can apply to become special members of the Economic Society of Australia. Students completing a Bachelor of Economics or an economics combined degree who are also completing a Finance major may meet the academic entry requirements to seek membership of the Australian Institute of Banking and Finance. The Bachelor of Economics Honours degree requires one year of full-time study in addition to the requirements for the BEc or BBus or combined pass degree. Student should note the specific unit requirements for the honours program in Finance.
Graduates may gain employment in fields such as international aid government business foreign affairs and trade research teaching banking.
