This is a new course structure being introduced for students commencing their Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws degree in 2013.
General knowledge about Arts and Law.
The major studies included in this course is gaining of skills in a range of humanities and social sciences, and creative arts areas of study combined with specialization in law. Also the Arts faculty offers the students the wide interest and knowledge in the fields of Aboriginal Studies, Ancient Civilizations, Ancient Greek, Art Theory, Asian Religions and Comparative Philosophy, Asian Studies, Behavioural Studies, Chinese, Criminology, English, European Studies, French, Gender Studies, Geography and Environmental Studies, German, History, Indonesian, International Relations, Japanese, Journalism Media and Communications, Latin, Music History, Music Skills, Music Technology, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Public Policy and Sociology.
The students must pass the first year of their BA degree, including the units( LAW121), Introduction to Law and (LAW122) Legal Systems, or the academic equivalent.There is a quota on places in the Bachelor of Arts-Bachelor of Laws and the assessment of applications will be based on academic merit, taking into consideration previous university studies. The three methods of entry are Direct Entry (for Year 12 leavers only) University entry with a TER score, Alternative Entry(first year in another faculty), which includes the units LAW121 Introduction to Law and LAW122 Legal Systems) or the academic equivalent,Graduate Entry (An Australian bachelor degree or equivalent). Part-time study is not available to International students. International students are not eligible to study at the Cradle Coast Campus.
The components, and the assessment, of the Law Skills,the unit has been fully integrated into the compulsory units. Satisfactory performance in the moot is a prerequisite to obtain the degree. Compulsory unit description outlines the skills covered by that unit. Students are required to enroll, attend and participate in one moot. Satisfactory performance in the moot is a prerequisite to obtaining the degree.
Graduates may gain employment in fields such as law, government, foreign affairs and trade, environment, journalism, banking and finance, politics, criminology and corrections, consumer affairs.
