The Bachelor of Contemporary Arts gives students a broad foundation in the methods, skills and processes involved in visual or performing arts practices, and familiarizes students with conceptual concerns and theoretical debates surrounding contemporary visual and performing arts practices. This course also provides students with the skills that employers want, such as self-discipline, critical thinking, analysis, problem solving, research, communication (visual and verbal), creativity, physical stamina, poise, perseverance and versatility .Areas of study include History and Theory, Theatre, Production and Technical Theatre- Scriptwriting, Theatre Performance, Theatre Skills, Voice and Movement, Visual Arts, Ceramics-Drawing- Electronic Media Painting, Photomedia, Printmaking, Spatial Practice,Textiles.
General assessment and knowledge of Contemporary Arts.
The major studies included in this stream are development of skills and processes involved in visual or performing arts practices. Also this course offers the students regarding skills and knowledge needed to apply for jobs in due respect what the employers want qualities such as self-discipline, critical thinking, analysis, problem solving, research, communication (visual and verbal), creativity, physical stamina, poise, perseverance and versatility.
Applicants are normally expected to have satisfied the university's minimum entry requirements. There are also specific application requirements for students in each area of specialization, including Visual Arts stream - are required to submit a portfolio of recent artwork (which may include DVD, CD, photographs or video). Theatre stream - are required to attend an audition and interview (overseas and interstate applicants may submit a DVD of a recent performance of around 8 minutes, if interested in production and technical theatre, discuss pervious theatre experience and area of technical theatre interest). History and Theory stream - are required to attend an audition and present a sample of recent writing (overseas and interstate applicants may submit a DVD interview about relevant areas of interest to accompany writing, and areas of interest to investigate further).
Articulation to/from the course from the BFA and from the BPA (Theatre/Contemporary Music) with the continuing University students and also on completion of the BCA with DN or above in the major studio and 6 semesters of theory (75%), graduates will be able to apply for entry into the F4JBachelor of Contemporary Arts with Honours is available.Articulation with TAFE or Polytechnic the degree program can count up to an equivalent of 50% of approved complementary TAFE/Polytechnic modules, of which no more than 25% may count towards the nominated major stream, for credit transfer purpose each module has an equivalent weighting of 12.5%. The credit is given to applicantswho are accepted for admission, and who have satisfactorily completed a related TAFE/Polytechnic diploma, will be awarded status for up to one year or one-third of the degree requirement (100% total).For Transfer the provision the student who successfully completes all introductory level units of the course in the visual arts or theatre streams at one campus will be eligible to transfer to units at intermediate level at the other campus with full status for introductory level units.Students commencing study in the BCA will normally be granted a minimum of 25% credit towards the BCA if they have completed another previous degree. Credit for another incomplete degree will be given on a case by case basis. The School of Visual & Performing Arts offers students a sequence of 12.5% elective units.
Graduates may gain employment in fields such as galleries and musuems, ,teaching, ,theatre, artcraft and design advertising and marketing arts administration photography public service film, TV and radio.
