The Bachelor of Music (BMus) enables students to gain skills necessary for success in the music profession. The course is based at the Conservation of Music in Hobart, a dynamic and progressive music-making environment which values and provides intensive one-to-one tuition, small class sizes and personalized attention. This course also provides students with the skills that employers want, such as self-discipline, critical thinking, analysis, problem solving, research, communication (visual and verbal), creativity, physical stamina, poise, perseverance and versatility. Areas of study include Classical Music Performance, Brass- Guitar, Keyboard, Percussion, Strings, Voice, Woodwind, Composition, Contemporary, Music Performance, Jazz- Rock, Singer-Songwriter, Music Technology, Musicology, Music Theory.
Basic knowledge about Music.
The major studies included in this course is development of skills necessary for a successful career in music profession.
Normal minimum university entrance requirements apply and pre-tertiary TCE Music is desirable but not essential AMEB Grade VII (Practical) and Grade V (theory), or equivalent.Applicants are required to attend an audition and interview and to undertake a theory and aural test (overseas/interstate applicants may submit a certified audio or video tape or CD of a recent performance).There are specific application requirements for students in each area of specialization including Instrumental and Vocal - should prepare a program comprising three works of contrasting style and period. Anyone possessing other qualifications and experience deemed by the Faculty to provide an adequate preparation for study equivalent to the successful completion of year 12 in an Australian school system may be admitted to the course. Part-time study is not available to international students.
Articulation to or from the course the design allows the possibility of articulation with related TAFE courses.Students who wish to specialise in performance or composition may, upon completion of this degree students may apply for the BMus in their area of specialization and, if accepted students get 100% credit towards the BMus, of units taken that also appear in the Bachelor of Music schedule.Students who complete the BMus with sufficient merit may apply for the BMus(Hons).
Graduates may gain employment in fields such as orchestral, teaching, recording and production, solo performance, composition, management, arts administration, ensemble performance, audio engineering.
