The Diploma of Languages offers students the ability to specialize in languages other than English. The course is basically designed to develop the learning skills of foreign languages by the students for their betterment.This further acts as an additional skill for them to seek jobs in future.
General knowledge about Languages, their importance in this modern world.
The major intention of the course is to enhance students with career prospectives and also have a positive impact on students broader academic performance. The main areas of language study include, Ancient Greek, Chinese,French, German, Indonesian, Japanese, Latin.
There are no pre-requisites for this course. A limited number of units are available via distance education/flexible delivery. The students can refer to the online Course and Unit Handbook for further information. Part-time study is not available to international students. Students on an international student visa must speak to International Services if they intend to undertake any study via distance education.
Articulation to or from the course the students who hold an award from this University or another approved institution may be permitted by the Faculty to count units from the former award towards the Diploma.Students who graduate with a Diploma of Languages and wish to enter the Bachelor of Arts will be granted a total of 50% credit towards the BA, comprising 25% Group 2 and 25% Group 3, if the Diploma has not been taken concurrently with that degree. Students will be granted full credit towards the BA degree for subjects studies in an incomplete Diploma of Languages, if the Diploma has not been taken concurrently with that degree. Students who transfer to the BA from the DipLang and receive full credit cannot graduate with the DipLang. Students who are granted credit from a Diploma of Languages towards the BA cannot complete a major in the same language.Students who are pursuing concurrent study in both the Diploma and either a bachelor or postgraduate degree,could receive credit to the maximum value of 25% (2x12.5%) toward the main degree, subject to successfully passing units in the Diploma, unless otherwise stated by the coordinator of the relevant degree (undergraduate or postgraduate).
Graduates may gain employment in fields such as interpreting and translating, teaching, publishing and media, travel and tourism, trade and diplomacy, migrant education.
3 years part-time
