The study of Classics and Ancient History has been central to Western culture for centuries. It is well respected as a discipline that fosters a keen sense of historical and cultural perspective, together with strong linguistic and literary skills and techniques of analysis and synthesis. Students can choose from a wide range of established ‘core’ courses at undergraduate level, together with more specialized options, such as Greek Epic, The Poetry of Ovid, Athens and Attica, and The World of Rome.

This major studies emphasis on development of skills related to languages with the history and archaeology of the classical world to give a holistic picture of this vibrant and eternally relevant era.
After pursuing this degree, Students can go ahead for further study in the classical world itself at honours and postgraduate level, and also in many areas which have been its beneficiaries such as philosophy, medieval and Renaissance history, and fine art as well as other postgraduate studies.
A major in Classics and Ancient History equips students for a wide range of careers including secondary and tertiary education, business and commerce, government departments, the media, and public and private sectors in the arts and culture.
