Studying the Psychology in Society major will help students to build a scientific understanding of human behavior and its underlying psychological processes. In this course students will find an emphasis on the measurement of psychological abilities such as intelligence, how these abilities develop through the life span and on the processes that govern the relationships between people and groups in society. Students also get chance to discuss, apply and expand on the theories described in unit in practical laboratory classes and structured tutorials. The School of Psychology is well equipped with a strong commitment to psychology as an empirical science.

After completing this degree from university of Western Australia, Students can pursue further studies at honors level, and, following that, at the postgraduate level a PhD and/or professional training can be undertaken. At present, postgraduate professional training is available in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, and Clinical Neuropsychology.
Career opportunities for graduates in Psychology in Society are varied because students are prepared for an occupation in which knowledge of human behavior, psychological measurement techniques, and experimental design and data analysis are valuable, such as teaching, market research, welfare, and politics. When combined with a major in Psychological Science, this major can also lead to further study and professional qualifications in Psychology. A four-year honors degree is required by the Psychologists Board of Australia for provisional registration as a psychologist.
