In this course students will study how apparently complex economic developments can be understood in terms of a set of simple, but fundamental principles such as the theory of choice. This economic approach can be applied to understanding topics as diverse as the economics of climate change, the valuation of currencies and other assets, the fairness of international trade, and the costs and benefits of different economic policies. Students will develop the capacity to analyze economic activities and issues both domestically and globally.

Major studies include understanding the economics of climate change, the valuation of currencies and other assets, the fairness of international trade, and the costs and benefits of different economic policies.
Students can pursue further studies at honors level or undertake a specialist master’s degree such as the Master of Economics. Student’s can also choose to complete a generalist master’s degree such as the Master of Commerce or Master of Business Administration.
Career paths include employment as economists, consultants and analysts in government and industry. Graduates can get employment in the Australian and State Treasuries, the Australian Reserve Bank as well as in economic consultancies and major companies. Employment prospects for economists are strong and hence the graduates can work as Actuary, Chief Executive, Corporate General Manager, Credit and Loans Officer, Economist, Finance Manager, Foreign Affairs and Trade Officer, Journalist, Land Economist, Mathematician, Parliamentarian, Policy Analyst, Policy and Planning Manager, Stockbroker, University Lecturer.
