In this course students will study a mix of core units to give a solid foundation in the Exercise Health area, and will be able to choose from elective units so that students will graduate with a broad knowledge and understanding in the area of exercise and health. When taken with a major in Sport Science, this combination leads to accreditation as an Exercise Scientist. To complement lectures from renowned experts in their various fields, Students will have the chance to discuss, apply and expand on the theory of unit in weekly practical laboratory classes and structured tutorials. The School of Sport Science, Exercise and Health are well equipped to offer a unique learning experience with cutting-edge equipment and laboratories that assist students to translate research into practice.
Good knowledge of biology.
Major studies include development of in depth knowledge related to exercise physiology and nutrition, biomechanics, motor control and skill acquisition, psychology of sport and exercise, coaching science, sports studies, health promotion, physical education (PE), outdoor recreation, sports management.
The students after pursuing this degree will become eligible for accreditation with ESSA as a Sport Scientist when taken with the Sport Science major.
Employment options include entering the broad health education and service provision sector, and the fitness industry in management or as an Exercise Scientist. Students may decide to study further and take a research career path, or move on to graduate training in education, teaching, corporate training, recreation management, health promotion or work safety and health. This course leads to become a: Anatomist or Physiologist, Exercise Physiologist, Fitness Instructor, Health Promotion Officer, Occupational Health Professional, Primary School Teacher, Psychologist, Secondary School Teacher, Sports Scientist, University Lecturer.
