University of Western Australia

A Physiology course will teach students how the human body works, from the molecular and cellular level, to tissues, organs and whole organisms, and will explain how these interact together with the environment to produce beneficial results for the organism. Students will also examine diseases, and the changes that occur at the molecular and cellular level and how these impact on whole body function. Through these investigations students will come to understand how physiologists contribute to the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies to combat the mechanisms of disease. To complement lectures students will have the chance to discuss, apply and expand on the theory of unit in regular practical laboratory classes and structured tutorials. Students will also get chance to use the latest electronic hardware and software to measure cell and body functions. At University of Western Australia, Students will be taught by internationally renowned researchers. Furthermore, studies in Physiology at University of Western Australia are firmly grounded in physical science principles, giving students an in-depth understanding of the fundamental nature of life processes.
Basic knowledge of biology.
Major studies in Physiology will enable student to understand the implications for health and disease of the recent molecular and genetic revolution. Understanding of molecular, cellular and whole organism function, physiologists are at the forefront of this new era. Physiology is therefore a central biomedical science, and a major part of the training of biomedical scientists, doctors, dentists and paramedics.
On completion of this course ,Students can pursue further studies at honors level, Graduate Diploma in Science, Master of Science or PhD.Other study options include Doctor of Dental Medicine, Doctor of Medicine, and Doctor of Podiatric Medicine, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Adult Sleep Science, Master of Forensic Science, Master of Clinical Audiology or Combined Master of Clinical Audiology and PhD, Master of Nursing Science, Master of Teaching.
A Physiology major can lead to careers in the biomedical industry and in research laboratories. There is growing demand for Physiology graduates to investigate the action of genes in the body. Physiology graduates are well prepared for a range of professional careers requiring postgraduate study, such as Medicine, Pharmacy and Clinical Audiology. Opportunities exist for employment as scientists in commercial organizations, or in sales associated with these types of organizations and in public science education. If student is having qualifications in the area of sport science or exercise and health, Then student can also find a career in health promotion and fitness. This course leads to become a: Anatomist or Physiologist, Exercise Physiologist, Fitness Instructor, Health Diagnostic and Promotion Professional, Health Promotion Officer, Journalist, Laboratory Manager, Secondary School Teacher, Sports Scientist, University Lecturer.
