The Graduate Diploma in International Relations is intended for those who already hold an undergraduate degree but wish to undertake further study to proceed to a Master's degree, or who wish to obtain advanced qualifications in the field of international relations. This course provides students with an understanding of the academic field on international relations including a number of its central concepts, theoretical perspectives and debates, especially in the Asia-Pacific region. This course develops students’ capacities to collect and interpret information, to analyze arguments, policies and developments, and to construct cogent verbal and written arguments on international relations subjects. These are skills of value in a range of occupations in business, government and non-government organizations. This course also enhances students’ understanding of the ways in which knowledge of international relations is utilized, including in professional employment.
In this course the major studies includes development of skills in problem solving and written and oral communications. Students will also study international Relations as part of a double major with: History, Japanese, Journalism, Geography (Sustainable Development), Anthropology and Sociology, Asian Studies, Business Law (Business), Chinese, Economics (Business).International Relations is offered as part of the Bachelor of Arts.
International students must have a bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in a relevant discipline (where required), completed to a sufficiently high standard.
Knowledge of international relations is valuable to employers in many international companies, government and non-government organizations and the media. Expertise in international relations complements qualifications in a range of areas and has application to a variety of employment options. This course leads to become an Foreign Affairs and Trade Officer, Intelligence Analyst, Journalist, Parliamentarian, Policy Analyst, Policy and Planning Manager.
