The general aims and objectives of the Bachelor of Economics are to produce well educated and adaptable graduates with appropriate knowledge and professional skills to meet the existing needs and demands of employment in industry.The students can undertake studies in the following areas such as Australian Economy and the Asia Pacific, Economic Analysis, Economic Policy, Finance.A major from another field of study like Accounting, Computing or Government.
Basic knowledge about Economics and Science.
The major studies inculcated in this course are better understanding of the issues and factors, both national and international , that determine how macro and micro economic systems are organized and how decisions are made by individuals, business, firms and governments.
The University's basic admissions are required, in addition the applicants must also have the following Satisfactory Achievement result or better in: The Science component:Mathematics (Stage 3) or Mathematics(Stage 2). Students who have not completed the Science Mathematics prerequisite may satisfy the prerequisite by successfully completing the summer Mathematics Bridging Unit. Encouragement for following subjects is expected:Computer Science, Chemistry, Geography, Environmental Science, Geology, Physics, Biology and Physical Sciences. The Economics component: Mathematics Applied, or an equivalent unit, or, a higher level Mathematics subject as accepted by the School of Economics and Finance and/or the Faculty of Business. Applicants who do not have the economics mathematics prerequisite and who wish to enroll for this combined degree should contact the Faculty Office.Students returning to study either after a long absence and/or new students, who have the mathematics prerequisite but who lack confidence in their quantitative skills should enrol in one of the following units Mathematics Foundation Unit, Bridging Maths or Introduction Quantitative Methods before enrolling in Quantitative Methods. International students(same prerequisite of domestic students) may only take Introduction Quantitative Methods.International students must provide an IELTS score or a TOEFL score with a Test of Written English score.The test must not be more than 24 months old.
After pursuing this degree from University of Tasmania, Students are recognized by the professional bodies that recognizes programs in the BEc. For the BSc component, graduates are eligible for membership of a number of professional organisations, specific details are provided under individual discipline entries.
The graduates upon completion of this course can gain careers in Banking Industry, Insurance, Commonwealth Government, Market Forecasting, Economic Research,State Government, Stockbroking, Statistics Fund management, Consulting firms.
