The University of Western Australia’s School of Psychology is a leader in clinical psychology training, with half a century of experience combined with a strong commitment to ongoing program innovation in health care. The Master of Clinical Psychology (Extended) is a two and a half year full-time course that equips graduates with a distinctive combination of clinical skills and research knowledge, relevant to work as a Clinical Psychologist. This program is based on a scientist-practitioner model of clinical psychology. The training it provides draws upon, and creatively combines, the University Of Western Australia School Of Psychology’s long-standing excellence in both professional education and research achievement. The program will equip graduates with the clinical skills required to practice as clinical psychologists, and will provide them with a wide range of importance research competencies. A key feature of this program is the consistent emphasis placed on enabling students to appreciate, and benefit from, the exciting synergies between clinical practice and research. This is achieved through the constructive integration of clinical skill development and research training within each of the three interlaced components of the program: the coursework component, the placement component and the thesis component. The fusion of these capabilities enables our graduates to integrate evidence-based approaches with practice-based evidence to achieve optimal outcomes for their clients. This blend of science-informed practice with clinical research training not only equips graduates to perform effectively as clinicians, but also to make major ongoing contributions to quality improvement, innovation, and the development of best practice within the field of clinical psychology.
