The Master of Economics is designed for those wishing to build on their existing qualifications in Economics. Many Master of Economics graduates choose to pursue careers as economic researchers and decision makers, while the course is also useful to teachers seeking to improve their professional qualifications through postgraduate studies. Topics covered include microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics, financial economics, resource economics, public economics, quantitative economics, economic history and economic development. Basic knowledge of economics.
Major studies include gaining of in-depth knowledge related to microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics, financial economics, resource economics, public economics, quantitative economics, economic history and economic development.
International students must have a bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in a relevant discipline (where required), completed to a sufficiently high standard.
Graduates who successfully completed the relevant financial planning elective courses will be eligible to enter the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Program offered by the Financial Planning Association of Australia. Graduates who undertake additional specified courses can have these counted towards partially fulfilling the academic requirements for Associate Membership of CPA Australia. Various courses offered within the program have been included in the ASIC Training Register as satisfying the minimum training requirements in line with Regulatory Guide 146 (RG146) for authorised representatives and other persons to provide financial product advice.The above professional accreditations have certain other requirements such as a period of relevant industry experience and training programs that would need to be met after graduation.
Graduates can expect to find work in government agencies at the local, state and federal levels, as well as opportunities in the private sector including banks, consultancy companies, international agencies, insurance companies and the finance industry. This course leads to become an Academic, Economist, Finance Manager, Financial Institution Branch Manager, Foreign Affairs and Trade Officer, Statistician, University Lecturer.
