Environmental management has become an integral part of the activities of industry and governments. It is now a primary function and requirement closely tied to questions of economic development and environmental sustainability. It involves devising effective measures for the protection and conservation of the environment, natural and cultural heritage and natural resources. The Master of Environmental Science, with a specialization in Environmental Management, will provide students with the necessary skills in the procedures and methods required in environmental management practices. Environmental issues are many and varied, and an interdisciplinary approach is followed. Environmental scientists concern themselves with issues such as: climate change, carbon trading, greenhouse gas emissions, water resource management, salinity, land degradation and rehabilitation, flora and fauna, habitat destruction, deforestation, energy and mineral depletion, air and water pollution, soil erosion, groundwater contamination .University of Western Australia is well equipped for teaching and research in environmental science and is supported by the Centre of Excellence in Natural Resource Management, the Terrestrial Ecosystems Research Initiative, the Kings Park and Botanic Gardens Biodiversity Conservation Centre and the Ecosystem Restoration Laboratory.
