Marine and coastal management involves the protection and management of coastal and marine environments. Coastal managers have a broad-based knowledge of marine and coastal systems and understand how the use of the environment by humans can be combined with the sustainable management of coasts. The Master of Environmental Science, with a specialization in Marine and Coastal Management, will provide students with knowledge and practical skills for the management of marine and coastal environments and will be well-qualified for a wide range of jobs in resource management. Environmental issues are many and varied, and an interdisciplinary approach is followed University of Western Australia is well equipped for teaching and research in Marine and Coastal Management and our teaching is supported by the world class research of the Oceans Institute, the Centre of Excellence in Natural Resource Management, the Terrestrial Ecosystems Research Initiative and the Ecosystem Restoration Laboratory.
Good knowledge of biology and environmental science.
Major studies include gaining of knowledge related to marine and costal management.
International students must have a bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in a relevant discipline (where required), completed to a sufficiently high standard.
Graduates are employed in fisheries and marine conservation agencies at a state and federal levels (such as the Department of Environment and Conservation), consulting firms, resource industries, the fishing industry, agencies such as Greenpeace and Reef Check, and in research at CSIRO, the Ocean’s Institute and universities. This course leads to become an Environmental Consultant, Environmental Manager, Environmental Scientist.
