The Bachelor of Education (Applied Learning) recognizes existing skills and knowledge of experienced vocational practitioners (through credit pathway) or a pathway for those students who are new to the Vocational Education and Training (VET) profession, to concurrently develop their discipline (subject) expertise while studying the other dimensions of teacher education.
General presumption of Education and importance of Applied Learning.
The major studies incorporated in this stream of The Bachelor of Education (Applied Learning) are gaining of contemporary, flexible and creative response to the demand for a more skilled teaching workforce in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector. It offers students the opportunity to integrate theory with practice, recognizing existing skills and knowledge of experienced vocational practitioners, whilst acknowledging the challenges these students face as they further develop their teaching practices and professionalism.
Admission is available on the basis of a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. All students must organise access to a teaching environment where they can complete the requirements of Professional Experience (equivalent of 80 days of teaching practice over the four year course).
The course articulates into the Bachelor of Education Honours course and the Faculty's postgraduate coursework courses.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Education (Applied Learning) will be qualified to teach in the Tasmanian Polytechnic and public and private sector schools. Graduates will also be highly sought as teachers in TAFEs and private RTOs, trainers in the defence force, emergency and law enforcement, nursing and hospitality and in communication-based jobs in industry training, call centres and public relations.
