The program is informed by core theoretical knowledge,evidence-based practice and underpinned by a strong theory-practice nexus enacted in collaboration with appropriate employing authorities. At the core of the program is the pre-service teacher who is educated to have a ownership of a reasoned and critical perspective, have capacity to operate inclusively in highly diverse contexts, have curricular and pedagogical competence,have capacity to be resilient learners who make evidence-based lifelong contributions to their field.
General assumption of Primary Education.
Development of skills to provide teaching practice, theory and skills to enable the beginning teacher to embrace the early years of teaching (Kindergarten to Grade 8) and to lay a foundation for further professional development in both theory and practice of education are involved as major concept of study.
No subject prerequisites apply, however applicants are expected to meet normal university entry requirements.
Articulation to or from the course the students who have undertaken an appropriate course at another Australian or overseas institution of further education or TAFE college may apply to receive credit for such study. Applications for credit can be made upon application to the Bachelor of Education (Primary) course,Honours, Postgraduate Coursework.The student upon completion of the course can register forTeacher registration (Tasmanian Teachers Registration Board).
The graduates of the course will be qualified to teach in public and private sector schools Australia-wide from Kindergarten to Grade 8.The graduates are also highly sought in communication-based jobs in industry training, call centres and public relations.
