The Diploma of University Studies is a one year full time equivalent course designed as an alternative entry pathway to university study that will provide students with academic foundation knowledge and skills and achievement at introductory level in at least two units in an area of study in which they wish to gain entry to a degree. The program is particularly suited to students requiring additional learning support in their first year of study. Diploma specialisations currently available are: Diploma of University Studies (Education), Diploma of University Studies (Science), and Diploma of University Studies (Arts).

The Diploma of University Studies (Education) is designed for applicants who do not meet entrance requirements for their chosen UTAS degree or for those who want a more supported or graded introduction to their studies. This may include mature-aged students returning to study, some VET graduate or students with a low ATAR score from their year 11/12 studies. The entry will be granted by assessment of a student's prior study history and supporting statement, literacy and numeracy assessment and/or personal interview.The students unsure of their eligibility to an undergraduate Degree should submit an application to the Degree course in the first instance. If the students are not elgible they may be offered a place in a Diploma. Students with insufficient IT skills may be required to enrol in an additional enabling-level unit (Using Technology).
