This two year undergraduate course is a fast track program and is offered in Hobart, Tasmania and at Rozelle, NSW.The student will be responsible for their transport and other associated costs during these clinical placements.The course provides the basic foundation to prepare the graduates to become a good paramedic in the medical practice.
General knowledge of Paramedics .
The major studies includes the generic nursing units and specialist paramedic units,which are taught by the Faculty of Health Science ,School of Medicine, School of Nursing , Midwifery and School of Human Life Sciences. Students will undertake clinical placements in various ambulance stations and other specialist health facilities, such as hospitals.
In order to commence workplace learning outside of the University of Tasmania (including clinical placements and visits) students are required to demonstrate compliance with the Faculty of Health Science and the School of Medicine policies relevant to workplace based learning. These include the Police Check Policy and Procedures, Infectious Disease Policy, Code of Conduct and Student Placement Agreement. Students who do not comply with these policies will not be placed or will be removed from placements and therefore will not be able to complete this course. Students who have not complied or are unsure of the policies should seek guidance from the School. While there are no specific prerequisites for entry to the degree, pre-tertiary English, Science and Humanities are recommended. Applicants who have not studied a science program in Year 11 or 12 should complete the enabling Biostart program.
Up on completion of this degree, The graduates will meet the professional requirements for employment as a Graduate Ambulance Paramedic and be eligible for membership of the Australian College of Ambulance Professionals.
The graduates will also possess the attributes to be employed in a Paramedic role within other occupations, such as industry emergency response personnel and community-based emergency health settings.
