The BComp-BEc combined degree program provides graduates with computing skills to enhance a career in central, commercial or merchant banking, government, management, market research or stockbroking. Alternatively the Economics qualification process a excellent skill base for a diverse range of careers in Information Technology. In addition, to the objectives of the Bachelor of Computing program, the Bachelor of Economics component aims to produce well educated and adaptable graduates with appropriate knowledge and professional skills to meet the existing needs and demands of employment in industry, commerce, banking and public administration or the more specialized fields of professional or research economics.
General knowledge about Computing and Economics.
The major studies included in this stream are development of appropriate knowledge and professional skills to meet the existing needs and demands of employment in industry, commerce, banking and public administration or the more specialized fields of professional or research economics.
BEc Component: In addition to meeting the University's basic admission requirements, applicants must have passed TCE MAP5C Mathematics Applied, or an equivalent unit, or, a higher level Mathematics subject as accepted by the School of Economics and Finance and/or by the Faculty of Business. English language skills will also need to be verified. International students must provide an IELTS score with an overall Band of 6 and no band less than 5.5, or a TOEFL score of 550 with a Test of Written English score of no less than 4.5. The test must not be more than 24 months old.
Articulation to or form the course can be awarded to the students for credit for units included in the schedules for the BComp and BSc will be awarded to students who transfer to the combined degree. Up to one year of credit for TAFE programs will be awarded for the BSc component on the same basis as for the single degree. Articulation arrangements already in place for the BComp will apply to the BComp component of the course.The BComp component provides eligibility for student membership of the Australian Computer Society (ACS) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). On completion of the degree and entry into the computing profession, graduates can apply to become full members of these bodies. For the BSc component, graduates are eligible for membership of a number of professional organisations. Specific details are provided under individual discipline entries.
