This program equips students to work as an engineering technologist and advise in planning, designing, operating and maintaining civil, electronic and environmental engineering works. Students need to specialize in civil, environmental or electrical and electronic engineering. The first year of the program is common with the Bachelor of Engineering program (see separate entries) and includes engineering, mathematics, computing, physics, design, instrumentation, communications and materials and testing. Civil Engineering: In this course students will specialize in an area such as concrete or steel structures, hydraulics, geotechnical, coastal engineering, electronic engineering or engineering management. Students will also gain a wide range of fundamental knowledge and technical skills in key areas such as communications, power generation and electrical machinery, digital signal processing, microprocessors and control systems.
Good technical skills.
In this course major studies include gaining of knowledge related to core engineering subjects such as mathematics and physics.
Engineering technologists bridge the gap between technicians and professional engineers and work with other professionals in solving engineering problems. Depending on chosen area of specialization, potential employers include government authorities, consulting firms, construction companies and manufacturing enterprises. Civil technologists build careers in the planning, design, operation and maintenance of civil and coastal engineering works. Electrical and electronic technologists are involved in the application of new technologies to new products and services, in a range of areas such as telecommunications and wireless electronics, internet services and biomedical instrumentation. Technology graduates have excellent employment opportunities in these high technology fields.
A minimum overall band score of 6.0 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 5.5, a minimum score of 550 on TOEFL or an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 79 (no score less than 19).
