The following specialisations are available within the GradCertArts(Spec),Aboriginal Studies Asian Studies,Australian Studies, Chinese ,Classical and Medieval Studies,Creative Writing,English ,French, German ,History ,Indonesian, Japanese ,Philosophy (incorporating Gender Studies) ,Sociology ,Social Research.
General knowledge about Arts.
The major studies includes gaining of strong theoretical and practical understanding of the discipline to have a strong foundation and equipping the in-depth knowledge and skills of the discipline, which the students will be able to engage critically with the discipline.
Normal admission requirement are a Bachelor of Arts degree or its equivalent from the University of Tasmania or a university degree from another university or tertiary institution, deemed to be appropriate by the Faculty of Arts or candidates not holding a bachelor's degree but whose employment experience indicates a level of knowledge and skill deemed by the Faculty to be sufficient to complete the course satisfactorily may be deemed eligible for admission.
Articulation to or from the course can be given to the students who have satisfactorily completed the requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Arts (Specialisation) may proceed to the Graduate Diploma in Arts (Specialisation). Where specialisations permit, students who satisfactorily complete the requirements for the Graduate Diploma may then proceed to the Master of Arts (Specialisation).Where specialisations permit, students will have the opportunity to undertake 12.5% or 25% of internship units (subject to negotiation with the course co-ordinator) as part of the Graduate Diploma. The maximum percentage of internship units able to be counted to the Graduate Diploma is 25%. The credit may be given, at the discretion of the Faculty, for previous postgraduate or honours level study, or alternative achievements by students in other awards and professional practice areas at equivalent level.
The graduates after the completion of the course can achieve jobs in numerous fields such as Communications and media, advertising, marketing or journalism, International studies: tourism, finance or foreign affairs, Performing and creative arts: television production, theatre or multimedia, Society and politics, criminology, philosophy or politics.
