The programs enable students from various backgrounds to gain knowledge of Asia and expertise in the field of Asian Studies such as politics and societies of Asia, or Asian literatures, which may be built on with further postgraduate research studies. The following specialisations are available within the GradCertArts(Spec) Aboriginal Studies,Asian Studies, Australian Studies,Chinese,Classical and Medieval Studies,Creative Writing,English,French ,German, History ,Indonesian, Japanese,Philosophy (incorporating Gender Studies),Sociology,Social Research.

This major studies will give students an understanding of the social and business dynamics of the region and students will be encouraged to develop career and research skills. With much of the world’s social and economic growth occurring in Asia, this course will give students insights into Asian culture, society, religion, history, politics, environment, communication and business organisations, which are relevant to future careers.Asian Studies is offered as part of the Bachelor of Arts.
The normal admission requirements are a Bachelor of Arts degree or its equivalent from the University of Tasmania or a university degree from another university or tertiary institution, deemed to be appropriate by the Faculty of Arts or the candidates not holding a bachelor's degree but whose employment experience indicates a level of knowledge and skill deemed by the Faculty to be sufficient to complete the course satisfactorily may be deemed eligible for admission.
The National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) is the national standards and accreditation body for translators and interpreters in Australia. It is the only agency that issues accreditations for practitioners who wish to work in this profession in Australia. UNSW programs in interpreting and translation are approved by NAATI.
The opportunities are in various fields such as teaching English, editing, proofreading, freelance writing, and computer work.
