General knowledge about Arts and its combined study with Classical and Medeival Studies.

The main intention and focus of the course is that upon completion of this course, students will have developed a strong theoretical and practical understanding of the discipline,have acquired a strong foundation in and in-depth knowledge and skills of the discipline,be able to engage critically with the discipline.

The normal admission requirements are a successful completion of the requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Arts (Specialisation); or a Bachelor of Arts degree or its equivalent from the University of Tasmania; or a university degree from another university or tertiary institution, deemed to be appropriate by the Faculty of Arts; or the candidates not holding a bachelor's degree but whose employment experience indicates a level of knowledge and skill deemed by the Faculty to be sufficient to complete the course satisfactorily may be deemed eligible for admission.

Where specialisations permit, students who have satisfactorily completed the requirements for the Graduate Diploma in Arts (Specialisation) may proceed to the Master of Arts (Specialisation). Students who complete 50% of units (including any core units) may elect to take out the Graduate Certificate.Credit may be given, at the discretion of the Faculty, for previous postgraduate or honours level study, or alternative achievements by students in other awards and professional practice areas at equivalent level.

Artists and creative practitioners and professionals are at the heart of the cultural sector. Providing the right forms of support and recognition for individual artists is an important element of the National Cultural Policy. The career outcomes for graduates of this course may include theatre practitioner, musician, visual artist, graphic designer, teacher, curator and arts administrator.
