The food industry is one of the largest industries in the world and needs highly trained professionals to ensure the sustainable supply, quality and safety of food. Food scientists determine the quality and properties of foods, including the nutritive and health value, flavor, palatability, color, texture and storage life using sensory, chemical and microbiological techniques.
Good knowledge of Chemistry, Physical Sciences and Mathematics.
Gaining of knowledge related to food microbiology, food safety, food regulations and law, food production, processing and preservation methods of staple foods such as dairy, eggs, meat, cereals and seafood are the concepts included as major parts in this course.
Students are eligible to this course if they have score 5 in GCE/STPM/HKALE (A-levels - best of three), score 24 in IB, score 60 in Ontario Gr 12 (best of 6), score 70 in TER (including TEE/SACE/HSC/VCE), score 53 in WAUFP (CPS), 65% in India/Pakistan, score 6 in Sri Lanka.
This course is accredited by International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST).
Students of this course will have career as Food Technologist, Food Processing Technician.
