This four-year double degree is a specialist, dynamic course which produces graduates with expertise to work in the ever-expanding field of health information management. Graduates are in great, and rapidly increasing, demand. They develop the skills to analyse and manage health information and systems throughout the healthcare sector. Students gain competencies for profession-entry level in the four areas of: medical/clinical classification, health information management (includes hands-on, supervised professional practice in hospitals and other organisations), health informatics and e-health, and in analysis and management of health data. This provides an excellent range of career opportunities in the healthcare sector.
Good knowledge of Biology.
Gaining of knowledge related to Academic Integrity Module, Human Biosciences, Individual Determinants of Health, Introduction to Professional Practice, Research and Evidence in Practice, Social Determinants of Health, Medical Terminology, Management of Health Information, Integrating Evidence into Practice, Pathophysiology, Applied Health Research, Health Classification, Management of Health Information are the concepts included as major parts in this course.
Students are eligible to this course if they have VCE Units 3 and 4: study score of at least 25 in English (any), or 30 in English (ESL) and at least 20 in one of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics (any) or Physical Education.
This course is accredited by national professional association, the Health Information Management Association of Australia.
Students of this course will have career as Health Promotion Officers, Health Project Officers, Health Advocates, Community Health Workers, Sexual Health Workers, Indigenous Health Officers, Community Development Workers, Sustainability Officers, or Social Marketing Practitioners.
