Finance is the study of the management of money, banking, investment and credit. An actuary analyses and manages the risks associated with finance. This double degree is designed to give students practical financial skills and an understanding of the actuarial process. By combining applied finance with actuarial studies students will deepen student’s understanding of the financial, mathematical, statistical and economic analysis needed in long term financial management. In this double degree students will study economics, accounting and current financial theory. Students will learn mathematical techniques particularly useful to actuaries such as probability and statistics. The program has a focus on applying these skills to real financial organisations, markets and instruments.

Gaining of knowledge related to Techniques and Elements of Finance, Introduction to Actuarial Studies, Macroeconomic Principles, Microeconomic Principles, Mathematics IB (Advanced), Statistical Data Analysis, Accounting IA, Accounting Information for Decision-Making, Mathematics IA (Advanced), Mathematics IA, Mathematics of Finance, Combinatorial Probability, Contingent Payments, Applied Financial Analysis and Management, Statistics, Probability, Macroeconomic Analysis, C/P Actuarial Modelling, Issues in Applied Finance, Survival Models, Risk Management, Pricing and Hedging, Money and Finance, International Finance are the concepts included as major parts in this course.
Students are eligible to this course if they have Good knowledge of mathematics (HSC Mathematics band 4, or international equivalent).
This course is accredited by the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (IAAust).
