The marine biology specialization includes units of study that cover estuarine, coastal and open ocean ecology, tropical, temperate and polar environments and fieldwork-based units. Students will undertake fieldwork including optional short courses in tropical regions. Past destinations include Fiji and the Great Barrier Reef. The strong science foundation underpinning this degree provides a wide range of opportunities in environmental fields. Students complete a final year research project in their area of interest.

Gaining of knowledge related to Evolution and Biodiversity, The Thread of Life, Marine Biology and Ecosystems, Marine Geoscience, Introductory Statistics, Ecology, Climate Change, Marine Environmental Issues, Genetics, Animal Structure and Function, Plant Structure and Function, Experimental Design and Data Analysis for Biology, History of Life, Marine Science Project, Marine Ecology are the concepts included as major parts in this course.
Students of this course will have career in aquaculture/mariculture, computer-based ecological modelling, environmental consulting, exploratory geology/petroleum industry, journalism and broadcasting, marine biology, preparation of impact statements, satellite imagery, teaching and research, underwater archaeology.
