Biomolecular science is the study of how molecules work in living biological systems. It is based on biochemistry and molecular biology, and extends into genetics, genomics and proteomics, biotechnology, structural and systems biology, and bioinformatics. Students will gain theoretical knowledge and practical experience in a range of relevant subject areas, including biochemistry, biotechnology, cellular biochemistry, genetic engineering, genomics, microbiology, molecular analysis, molecular biology, molecular structures, and proteomics. Students can specialize in their area of interest, or combine with a range of related disciplines including chemistry, biological sciences, medical sciences, physics, geosciences, business and law.
Good knowledge of Chemistry.
Gaining of knowledge related to The Psychological Context, The Social and Historical Context, Economics and Business Studies in the Secondary School, English in the Secondary School, Geography in the Secondary School, History in the Secondary School, Mathematics in the Secondary School, Science in the Secondary School, Organic and Biological Chemistry - The Chemistry of Life, The Thread of Life, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Medicinal Chemistry, Molecular and Medical Biotechnology, Protein Discovery and Analysis, Functional Proteomics, Medical Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Genomics, Biochemistry and Cell Biology are the concepts included as major parts in this course.
Students are eligible to this course if they have HSC Mathematics (Band 2), Chemistry (Band 3) or equivalent.
Students of this course will have career in Agribiotechnology, biomarker discovery, biomedical sciences, bioproduct manufacturing, drug discovery, patent law, pharmaceuticals, research, sales and marketing, teaching.
