The program attracts people who are interested in environmental management, or who anticipate responsibility for environmental governance and policy formation. The course extends the professional expertise of people working in or seeking to work in land and resource management, biodiversity conservation, sustainable development and environmental policy. The course offers a broad, interdisciplinary approach to environmental management and provides students with an opportunity to undertake a research project.
General knowledge about Environmental science
Major studies focus on development of knowledge related to natural and cultural values, approaches to manage ecosystems, the social, cultural and institutional contexts in which environments are managed and methods used to address issues associated with biodiversity conservation and sustainability. Emphasis is placed on integrating contributions from the bio-physical and social sciences. An important component of the course is the opportunity for students to undertake a research project on an environmental management topic.
Australian Bachelor's degree in any discipline, preferably at credit level or better, or other tertiary qualifications deemed by the University to be equivalent. A grade of Credit (CR) or better must be achieved in at least a 50% of coursework units in order for a student to proceed to the thesis component of the Masters.
The course fully articulates with the Graduate Diploma of Environment Management. A grade of Credit (CR) or better must be achieved in at least a 50% of coursework units in order for a student to proceed to the thesis component of the Masters.This course is professionally accredited by the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) and after one year of relevant work experience, graduates are eligible to apply for PIA corporate membership.
The course can lead to positions in conserving and managing natural, rural and urban environments. People with expertise in environmental management are sought after by local, state and federal governments; community organisations and private consulting firms.
