The Graduate Certificate in Geographical Education is a professionally-oriented program which aims to update and broaden the geography content knowledge of practising teachers in primary, high schools and colleges, and others involved or interested in the field of geographical education. The program addresses professional learning opportunities covering human and physical geography by providing access to current thinking and practice in geography.Geography is the study of the people and places on the planet. It is commonly called the “mother of all sciences”.

Major studies include development of basic skills related to geography.
Applicants must normally hold an approved degree or equivalent qualification. For the enquiry units, applicants need to have access to an educational setting that would allow implementation of the action research projects.
After completing this course from University of Tasmania students get accreditation by the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF).
This course seeks to provide a unique and timely opportunity for qualified teachers to upgrade their knowledge in order to meet the needs of primary and secondary students required to engage with the Australian Curriculum in Geography.
