Basic knowledge of history.

Gaining of logical, critical and creative thinking in the discipline, applying knowledge and skills gained from the Graduate Certificate (R5W), acquiring advanced level knowledge, attributes and specialist expertise in the discipline are included as major concept of study.

Normal admission requirement are a successful completion of the requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Arts (Specialization); or a Bachelor of Arts degree or its equivalent from the University of Tasmania or a University degree from another University or tertiary institution, deemed to be appropriate by the Faculty of Arts or candidates not holding a bachelor's degree but whose employment experience indicates a level of knowledge and skill deemed by the Faculty to be sufficient to complete the course satisfactorily may be deemed eligible for admission.

Students who have satisfactorily completed the requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Arts (Specialisation) may proceed to the Graduate Diploma in Arts (Specialisation). Where specialisations permit, students who satisfactorily complete the requirements for the Graduate Diploma may then proceed to the Master of Arts (Specialisation).Where specialisations permit, students will have the opportunity to undertake 12.5% or 25% of internship units (subject to negotiation with the course co-ordinator) as part of the Graduate Diploma. The maximum percentage of internship units able to be counted to the Graduate Diploma is 25%.Credit may be given, at the discretion of the Faculty, for previous postgraduate or honours level study, or alternative achievements by students in other awards and professional practice areas at equivalent level. After the successful completion of the course students get accredited by an official industry accreditation body in Australia.

This course aims to both impart knowledge and stimulate inquiry about the human past, and develop, by means of historical study, a range of valuable skills and qualities of mind which have general application. History provides an important bridge between the Humanities and Social Sciences, and provides opportunities to specialize in Australian, European, American or African history.
