A major in writing enables students to specialize in writing while choosing a direction that suits students to personal and career goals. Study choices range from novel writing and poetry to literary journalism and scriptwriting for screen. Students will learn how to write by coming up with creative ideas that students write, revise and workshop. Students study the production and publishing contexts in which writing occurs. Students will explore the cultural and social issues that influence writing in Australia and internationally.

Gaining of knowledge related to Techniques and Elements of Finance, Principles of Management, Microeconomic Principles, Marketing Fundamentals, Accounting Information for Decision-Making, Approaches to English Literature, Academic Cultures, Creative Writing: An Introduction, Screenwriting: An Introduction, Non Fiction Writing: Travel Writing, Non Fiction Writing: Music and Arts Journalism, Theories of Writing for the Media, Literary Journalism, Writing for Production and Publication, Narrative and the Novel, Creative Writing: Concept and Practice, Creative Writing: Narrative Fiction, Non Fiction Writing: Telling True Stories, Non Fiction Writing: Memoir and the Personal, Screenwriting: Images, Ideas, Stories are the concepts included as major parts in this course.
Writing offers students broad skills to go on to work as professional writers in book and media publishing, film, editing, teaching, advertising, social services and government. Students have gone on to work in jobs as diverse as a cadet journalist with a regional newspaper, runner for news network Al Jazeera, and administrator for a large performing arts organization.
