The course aims to equip students with the fundamental knowledge, skills and capabilities to function effectively as information managers, a good understanding of the roles that information plays in society, organisations and for individuals and the need for information resources to be managed effectively,to develop professional skills and appropriate attitudes in the areas of the support of clients engaged in information retrieval and usage, and all aspects of the careers of information managers, provides an understanding of the principles and practice of information organisation,usage of information management systems and the positions that information managers play in public and private organisations,  to meet the professional standard for qualifications and memberships required by ALIA.

Understanding of the relationship between individuals and public/private recorded information and knowledge practices, tacit/explicit knowledge and how these can be valued, captured, structured and shared for effective use, Development of skills related to ethical practice and the ability to operate with integrity, rigour, self-reliance and cooperation in professional contexts are included as major concept of study.
Candidates for the Graduate Diploma in Information Management program need to have a Bachelor degree or equivalent, for entry into all postgraduate courses, international students must provide an IELTS test score or a TOEFL with a Test of Written English, this test must not be more than 24 months old.
Graduates of this course are eligible for professional accreditation with Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).
The graduates of the Graduate Diploma in Information Management could expect to find employment as a librarian, information manager or research officer.
