This is one of the newer fields in engineering. A mechatronic engineer combines the principles of computer, electronics and mechanical engineering when designing, building and managing controls and imbedded systems, sensors, actuators and robotic systems. Mechatronic engineering applies to a range of practical applications such as creating intelligent machines and advanced manufacturing and processing systems. Completion of this major as part of the Bachelor of Engineering will prepare students for a career in mechatronic engineering. Students can combine this major with one of the following as a major or minor of the Bachelor of Engineering: electronics, computer, mechanical, software, and telecommunications engineering.
Good knowledge of Mathematics.
Gaining of knowledge related to Introduction to Engineering, Engineering Practice, Engineering Project Practices, Industry Experience, Engineering Research Thesis, Systems Design and Engineering, Engineering Principles and Practice, Introduction to Computer Science, Digital Fundamentals and Numerical Techniques, Electro mechanics, Mathematics, Thermodynamics, Relativity and Fields, Physics, Particles and Waves, Signals and Systems, Programmable Logic Design, Introduction to Mechatronics, Circuits and Devices, Engineering Dynamics, Thermodynamics and Fluids, Mechanical Design, Mechanics of Solids, Feedback Control and Dynamic Systems, Mechatronic Systems, Computer Hardware, Engineering Mathematics, Advanced Mechatronic Engineering are the concepts included as major parts in this course.
Students are eligible to this course if they have HSC Mathematics (Band 4), HSC Physics or Chemistry, Engineering Studies, Senior Science, Information Processes and Technology and/or HSC Software Design and Development or international equivalents.
Macquarie University will be applying for accreditation for this new major in due course in accordance with Engineers Australia’s requirements. Programs accredited by Engineers Australia are recognized internationally.
Students of this course will have career as an avionics specialist, control systems engineer, factory automation adviser, manufacturing engineer, production engineer, robotics developer.
