Telecommunications engineers design, build and manage systems that carry out the transmission, processing and storage of information as electrical or optical signals over complex networks. They work in fields such as telephone and internet networks, radio and television broadcasting and satellite communications. Completion of this major as part of the Bachelor of Engineering will prepare students for a career in telecommunications engineering. Students will study computer networking, computer security, communication electronics, e-commerce technology, embedded systems, information technology, optical technology and photonics, business law and economics, economics, finance, statistics and econometrics. Students can combine this major with one of the following as a major or minor of the Bachelor of Engineering: electronics, computer, software, mechanical, and mechatronic engineering.

Students are eligible to this course if they have HSC Mathematics (Band 4), Higher levels of HSC Mathematics, HSC Physics or Chemistry, Engineering Studies, Senior Science, Information Processes and Technology and/or HSC Software Design and Development or
This course is accredited by Engineers Australia and recognised internationally by those countries under the Washington Accord.
Students of this course will have career as a computer and communications network engineer, electronics design and manufacturing engineer, research and development engineer, telecommunication systems engineer, telecommunications sales engineer.
