This comprehensive course addresses all aspects of human nutrition and food relevant for employment in the health and food industries. With a strong focus on consumer health, students will gain an understanding of food, including food choice and its relationship to health, as well as the role of nutrition in human health and disease prevention. If students are interested in a career in the food industry it is recommended that students to undertake a food science major sequence, which provides knowledge and skills for employment in the food industry.

Gaining of knowledge related to Food: Nutrition, Culture and Innovation, Human Structure and Function, Food: the Environment and Consumers, Chemistry in Our World, Understanding Health, The Science of Food, Food Fundamentals, Chemistry for the Professional Sciences, Principles of Nutrition, Food Security and Safety, Lifespan Nutrition, Nutrition and Food Promotion, Diet and Disease, Food Policy and Regulation, Sensory Evaluation of Foods, Population Nutrition, Assessing Food Intake and Activity are the concepts included as major parts in this course.
This course is accredited by Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology (AIFST).
After successfully completing this course students will be well prepared for careers requiring knowledge of nutrition, health, food analysis, sensory evaluation, product development, food safety and food manufacture. Students will also gain employment in diverse areas including: food policy, food regulation, quality assurance and control, food wholesale and retail, food laboratories and research institutes, nutrition and agribusiness, consumer education and awareness campaigns, private practice, nutrition counselling and community nutrition.
