Deakin’s Bachelor of Zoology and Animal Science provides students with a broad understanding of the current field of zoology, with an emphasis on exposure to the latest cutting-edge research and the development of a range of practical and evidence-based decision-making skills. Successful completion of the course may also lead to opportunities for further study including postgraduate research training both in Australia and overseas. During the course students will learn about the diversity, ecology, behaviour, physiology, biochemistry, genetics and evolutionary biology of animals from amoeba through to zebra. This learning will be complemented by a number of practical and field based learning experiences. The potential effects that environmental change may have on the evolution, genetics, disease and physiology of animals is an important part of the course, environmental change will affect all areas of zoology.
Good knowledge of Biology, Chemistry.
Gaining of knowledge related to Cells and Genes, Ecology and the Environment, Biology: Form and Function, Physics for the Life Sciences, Physical Geography, Animal Diversity, Research Methods and Data Analysis, Marine and Coastal Ecosystems, Vertebrate Structure and Function, Genetics, Animal Behaviour, Sensory Neurobiology and Behaviour, Evolutionary Ecology, Disease Ecology and Epidemiology, Human and Animal Navigation are the concepts included as major parts in this course.
This course is accredited by Society of Biology.
