This Honors program will be withdrawn from Semester 1-2015 and will only be available in 2014 to students who have successfully met the admission requirements for this Honors program. If student is master’s degree student, then student needs to pursue one of the following specializations such as Event Management, International Tourism and Hospitality Management, Sport Management. This program provides students who have demonstrated high performance an opportunity to complete a 40 credit point supervised research project that forms the basis for entry into a higher degree by research program. In this course the major studies include gaining of skills related to a set of core courses, a choice of electives drawn from Business, Society and Culture and economics courses, and a capstone that integrates concepts students have been exposed to in the major. The other core courses include key business courses in ethics, history and management.
Up on completing this degree from Griffith university students become eligible to apply for admission to one or more of the following professional bodies such as Australian Human Resource Institute, The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS).
The Master of Business program will provide graduates with discipline-specific knowledge in areas of international tourism and hospitality management, event or sport management in addition to the advanced knowledge and skills gained in the core courses in marketing, strategic management and managing people and financial resources. In a rapidly expanding and dynamic services industry, it is expected that graduates will be highly sought after by employers in following areas government departments such as tourism authorities, sporting clubs and associations, event management organizations, sport tourism, food and beverage management, entertainment services, theme parks and attractions, retail travel. Students will also have personal and professional competencies relevant to ethical practice in a complex environment and then specialize in one of the following areas. Students completing this specialization will gain relevant knowledge and skills to analyze and critically evaluate current management practices within the tourism and hospitality industries which will enable them to provide managerial leadership to enhance the sustainability and development of tourism and hospitality enterprises. Sport Management: This specialization builds upon the postgraduate Business foundation courses to advance the competency of students in managing the business of sports. The specialized courses provide opportunities for increasing knowledge and skills in areas such as sport promotion, sports law and sport and recreation development management. It is expected that graduates will be highly sought after by employers in areas in sporting enterprises including sport/event management and marketing firms, with government organizations including Institutes of Sport, Offices of Sport and Recreation, and local government departments providing sport and recreation services, as well as with sporting clubs and associations. Event Management: Students in this specialization will gain specialist knowledge and skills relevant to professionals who organize medium to large-scale meetings, conventions, festivals, and sporting and charitable events. This specialization is designed both for the practicing event practitioner wanting to take their skills to the next level, and for the business graduate who has a desire for the event management field.
