The Bachelor of Communication will help students to develop the knowledge and skills to open the door to a range of creatively stimulating commercial careers. This program encompasses communication skills and techniques, including screen production, analysis of the mass media and communication industries, marketing, public relations, creative writing, new technologies journalism and photography. Students will have the opportunity to be placed into internships in the media and other related areas. Students need to select two majors with at least one major chosen from the core major list. The core majors list is structured to focus strongly on courses that emphasize direct communication methods. The major focus in communication studies provides students with an appropriate balance of theoretical knowledge and sophisticated, practical communication skills. In this course students will also learn how people create and use messages to generate meaning within and across various contexts, cultures, channels, and media. The multidisciplinary curriculum covers speech communication, mass communication and new media, journalism, public relations, business writing, and technical writing. It encourages students to develop written, oral, and visual communication skills, to apply communication theories to both personal and professional situations and to increase their understanding of human interaction. Students will also develop the ability to understand and use various communication strategies (including persuasion, argumentation, conflict management, negotiation, and mediation) that lead to positive social change, To develop the tools to define, analyze, invent, and interpret messages and students will also learn how to develop the skills to become an effective speaker, critic, and decision maker.
After pursuing this degree from Griffith university students will be equipped with highly developed communication skills across a broad spectrum, Students can look forward to a rewarding career in the media, film industry, public education, commercial communication, arts and leisure management, journalism, public relations or interactive media.
A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 6.0, a minimum score of 575 on TOEFL or an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 88 (no score less than 21).
