The Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice is 26-week full-time professional and practical training course conducted by the Centre for Legal Studies in Hobart. The course runs from February to July each year. It prepares law graduates for the conduct of legal practice. It is an approved course of practical legal training in the duties of a legal practitioner, for the purposes of the Legal Profession Act 2007 Section 25.

The vital units incorporated in this course are gaining of in depth knowledge and skills related to Supreme Court Practice and Advocacy, Magistrates' Court Practice and Advocacy, Commercial Practice, Property Law Practice, Trust and Office Accounts,Family Law Practice,Professional Responsibillities and Ethics.
Applicants need to have successfully completed a degree of Bachelor of Laws or a combined degree course including the Bachelor of Laws at the University of Tasmania or any other approved Australian University. Applicants need to have passed the requirements of the subjects prescribed by the Board of Legal Education pursuant to Section 25 of the Legal Profession Act 2007.
The Tasmanian Legal Practice Course conducted by CFLS (Handbook 2013) Ltd. may award the graduate upon the completion (prior to all other UTAS requirements being met), with a “Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice.” This course is designed according to the Australasian Professional Legal Education Council (APLEC) and Law Admissions Consultative Committee (LACC).
