Griffith university

The Graduate Diploma of Dentistry builds upon knowledge acquired in the Bachelor of Oral Health in Dental Science program. This program involves continuous development of the theoretical knowledge underpinning dental practice followed by extensive clinical experience with patients in the Griffith Dental Clinic. Students will also be exposed to work-integrated clinical placements in the community in a wide range of settings including Queensland Health Dental Clinics, hospital rotations, remote and Indigenous community clinics, and other remote clinics run by Griffith University. This program is open only to students who have successfully completed the Griffith University Bachelor of Oral Health in Dental Science program. This program is designed to expose students to a variety of clinical competencies, knowledge and attributes leading to a comprehensive care approach when treating patients. This program has an emphasis on clinical skills, communication skills and teaches the art of dentistry in its wider social and ethical context, preparing students to become competent, caring and socially responsible dentists.
Good knowledge of biology.
The major studies focuses on gaining of knowledge in oral biosciences and biomedical foundations in oral health. This course emphasizes the importance of prevention as a goal and introduces clinical practice. Development of the knowledge and clinical skills needed for the care of individual patients. Exploring the principles and philosophies underlying health promotion for individuals and the community are also involved as major concept of study.
The Graduate Diploma of Dentistry is accredited by the Australian Dental Council.
Registered Dentists can work in private practice or in the public sector. The majority of dentists are self-employed in general dental practice. Some are employed in the State Dental Services providing dental care to children, indigenous and geographically and/or financially disadvantaged communities. There are also opportunities for graduates to become academics undertaking teaching and research in the University sector while others choose to undertake further training in order to become specialists in areas such as Orthodontics, Endodontics, Periodontics, Prosthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Surgery or Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
A minimum overall band score of 7.0 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 7.0, a minimum score of 580 on TOEFL or an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 92 (no score less than 22).
